Narrabri Shire marked Australia Day with a morning of celebration, recognising the exceptional individuals who make a lasting impact on the local community. The annual Australia Day Awards honoured residents for their dedication across a range of fields, including civic service, sport, and the arts.

The 2026 Narrabri Shire Australia Day Award recipients are:

  • Citizen of the Year – Michelle Wheeler
  • Young Citizen of the Year – Caitlin Evans
  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year – Toni Gale
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year (Male) – Gabriel O’Connor
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year (Female) – Lillian Todd
  • Community Arts and Cultural Development Award – Janice Smith

Shire representatives said the awards are an important opportunity to acknowledge the people who help make Narrabri a stronger, more vibrant community.

“They contribute to our Shire in many ways, and we were honoured to have the opportunity to acknowledge them,” a council spokesperson said.

“Thank you for choosing to make our Shire and Australia your home.”

The Australia Day ceremony is a long-standing tradition in Narrabri, reflecting the diverse contributions and shared values that shape the local community.
