Edwards St water main to be replaced

Some Moree residents will face 48 hours of level 5 water restrictions next week due to essential water main replacement works on Edward Street.

Moree Plains Shire Council has advised the restrictions will be in place from 11pm Tuesday 27 January until 11pm Thursday 29 January 2026 while a section of the town’s distribution main is replaced.

Director of Infrastructure Michael Malone said the works are required to renew ageing infrastructure at the Edward Street bridge.

“To enable a renewal of the water main, Council will be replacing a section of the main located at the Edward Street bridge,” Mr Malone said.

“These works will include constructing two new connections required for the installation of the replacement pipe.

“These restrictions are necessary to preserve water in the town reservoirs for essential domestic and firefighting purposes, while the distribution main is isolated to cut in the connections of the new replacement main.”

During level 5 restrictions, only essential household water use is permitted.

All external watering of lawns and gardens will be banned, along with washing vehicles, houses and paved surfaces. Filling of swimming pools, fountains and ponds is also prohibited.

Residents are being asked to keep showers to less than four minutes and limit clothes washing to essential items only.

Council is encouraging residents to water lawns and gardens over the long weekend in preparation for the two-day restriction period.

Council has also acknowledged that some parks and public spaces may still appear to be irrigated during the restriction period. These areas are watered using bore water or treated effluent and do not draw on the town’s potable water supply.

Residents with questions about the restrictions or the water main works can contact Council’s Water Team on (02) 6757 3222.
