Tow World Tamworth on the move under new ownership

Tamworth’s much-loved Tow World is shifting up a gear under the leadership of new owners, Gayle and Troy Black, who have brought fresh energy, local passion, and a strong customer focus to the long-standing business.

For the couple, purchasing Tow World was both a lifestyle choice and a shared dream.

“We wanted to purchase a business that we both were passionate about and could work on together,” said owner and manager, Gayle Black.

Their love of caravanning and exploring the great outdoors made the move a natural fit.

That experience, she explained, plays a big role in how they run the business today.

“We believe that our knowledge in caravanning helps us be able to relate to our customers, and our passion for travel and exploring Australia helps,” she said.

While fresh ideas and energy are steering the business forward, the couple is proud to honour Tow World’s long local history.

“For us, Tow World was founded as a family-owned business,” Gayle said. “It was originally established back in the 1960s and passed down through three generations before we purchased it. We’ve kept part of the old logo from the original owners as a bit of a tribute.”

One of their biggest early decisions was to bring brand-new caravans back to Tamworth, something the local community had been missing for years.

“We had many customers complaining to us that they couldn’t find a new van without travelling a great distance,” said Gayle.

“We’ve worked with a few manufacturers on supplying the New England region and we are happy with our X Series, Phoenix and Sunland range. Each brings something new – whether it’s being Australian-made like the Phoenix and Sunland, or meeting a price point like the imported X Series and the X Series Signature, which will be released at the end of October. The Sunland is always popular for its hybrid chassis, making it one of the lightest vans on the market.”

That decision has been warmly welcomed.

“The support that we have received from the locals in Tamworth has been absolutely overwhelming,” said Gayle.

“We’ve been so grateful to have the support of our local community and the ever-growing wider caravanning community.”

Tow World continues to be a true one-stop shop, offering trailers, caravan servicing, parts and accessories, and a growing range of on-site repairs.

“Every week we get customers and travellers rocking up on our doorstep with an emergency breakdown,” Gayle said.

“From squeaky bearings to busted axles, we’ve had it all, even caravans delivered on the back of a tilt truck. We help travellers and locals alike get back on the road and enjoying our great outback.”

For Gayle and Troy, customer service is at the heart of everything they do.

“We want customers to feel welcomed and surrounded by knowledgeable people,” said Gayle.

“We try to make sure customers are valued. That if we don’t have the product they want, we’ll find it, source it or order it in for them.”

That hands-on approach is also evident in the couple’s recent workshop expansion.

“We’re extremely happy to have the new service department up and running with a qualified mechanic on staff,” Gayle said.

“We’re hoping to branch out into tow bars and bull bars in the near future. But right now, we’re really enjoying watching our books fill up with services – so make sure you book yours in soon before the Christmas rush!”

When it comes to buying a caravan or trailer, Gayle’s advice is simple: take your time. “Research, research, research,” she said. “Don’t just buy the first one that looks shiny and new. The van should meet your needs: where you’ll go, what you want to do, how many people it’s for, and most importantly, your tow vehicle must be the number one consideration.”

“I’d much prefer a customer to come and sit in the van a couple of times before purchasing. We want lifelong customers, people who come back for services, share their travel stories, and bring in their vans with a few ‘war wounds’ from the tracks.”

Tow World really is a treasure-chest for all the bits and pieces that make a big difference on the road. Their parts and accessories range covers everything from ramps, racks, and toolboxes to solar panels, lighting and electrical fittings, all designed to boost convenience, safety and performance.

If you have a horse float, caravan, or trailer, there’s a good chance Tow World has what you need or can order it for you.

They also stock major industry-brands so customers are getting parts built with quality and reliability in mind. Brands like Dometic, Waeco, Camec, Coast to Coast RV and Aussie Traveller are part of their lineup, offering trusted components for things like refrigeration, awnings, water systems, and more. If something isn’t already on the shelf, the team will track it down.

Gayle tells us they’re working with to bring new, trusted brands to the area, like Smart Cap, Gen Y Hitches, Air Bag man and Off-road Animal Bull Bars.

For those who want a full service, their workshop handles small repairs and servicing—all the things you need to keep a caravan or trailer safe and road-worthy,

Tow World isn’t just about trailers and caravans; they’ve also stepped into the motorsports space with a curated selection of motorbikes and ATVs. For riders looking for something more than just towing gear, the shop carries dirt bikes, farm quads, and racing bikes, along with models suited to leisure or serious off-road work.

These aren’t afterthoughts either, the team see motorbike and quad sales as part of Tow World’s identity as a destination for adventure enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or someone looking to try something new, the staff are ready to help with advice, options, and the right fit for your needs.

Looking ahead, the couple has big plans. “We’d love to find a much bigger premises, bring more caravans, more variety, and more trailers into Tamworth,” Gayle said.

“We’ve already outgrown our current location and would really like to move out onto the highway.”

“We’re always bursting at the seams. We still have our trailer range that we sell out of almost weekly. So, watch this space — if you know someone with the right spot, let us know!”
