The much-loved Blackville Arts and Market Day will return on Sunday, 19 October.
Blackville, one of the smallest communities in the New England, located around 40km west of Quirindi, with a population of 127, has a remarkably strong arts community, and the annual fundraiser has been drawing large crowds from the region for many years.
Blackville Arts and Market Day president Eleanor Pengilley said the not-for-profit event is supporting Spring Ridge Preschool and will feature more than 50 boutique stalls, offering artisan goods, gourmet food, and kids’ entertainment.
“The event captures the essence of community spirit on the Liverpool Plains,” Ms Pengilley said.
“Locals and visitors can enjoy browsing homewares, ceramics, clothing, jewellery, condiments and more, while savouring delicious food and beverages from a variety of stalls.”
Ms Pengilley said their small farming community has a vibrant creative scene.
“Our annual market day brings people together and keeps that spirit alive.”
“There really is something for everyone.”
A highlight of the day will be the Judith Lee Art Prize, a platform for young creatives to showcase their talent.
“This annual art prize commemorates a very missed and loved member of our Blackville community, Judith Lee,” Ms Pengilley said.
“Judith would have been blown away by the standard of artworks produced by the children of Liverpool Plains small schools in previous years.”
“There are so many young people in the region with incredible artistic talent.”
Ms Pengilley said the Blackville Arts and Market Day is a fantastic family day out and the perfect chance to get a head start on Christmas shopping.
She said the arts day will feature exhibits from local as well as guest artists and all artwork is for sale.
“With $5 entry (free for children under 12), kids’ entertainment, boutique shopping, and an unbeatable country atmosphere, the arts and market day is a great experience.
“Blackville is a small farming community in the heart of the Liverpool Plains with a vibrant arts scene.
“The markets have a real country feel and there will be musical entertainment, creating a fantastic day out for the whole family.”
The event will be held from 10am–3pm, Sunday, 19 October, at Blackville Public School, 13 O’Neile Street.
