Time to suit up Tamworth, as the Stars of Tamworth Dance for Cancer returns on Saturday 13th September for its 11th year… and this year they’ll be channelling some James Bond intrigue, under the theme of Casino Royale.
This years 13 contenders include local musicians, Rotarians, teachers, television and radio identities, childcare legends, local business owners, dance dads and a friendly face or two locals all know and love.
Each year the Dance for Cancer event is a highlight on the Tamworth social calendar and is quickly sold out, last years event was a huge success raising over $200,000 and we anticipate this year will be just as great a success.
This year’s group of ‘Stars’ will perform a variety of dance routines across all different styles to entertain the audience. The stars are being guided under the expert tutleage of local dance teachers Kellie Singh & Lily Singh and the amazing students/partners from Tamworth City Dance Academy.
“Stars Of Tamworth Dance for Cancer has become a beloved annual event, and we are so extremely grateful to have the support of TCDA who really help make this event as fun, professional, and exceptional as it is. Each year they raise the standard and people know they can come along, and not only raise money for a great cause, but also to enjoy a high-class evening of entertainment” said Sally-Anne Whitten, Community Fundraising Coordinator – New England North West Cancer Council NSW.
The Stars are battling it out for the opportunity to win three different titles. A panel of celebrity judges will pick the winning routine on the night (Judges choice Award) and the Tamworth community will have the opportunity to vote via a text to vote system for the People’s Choice award winner.
The Stars will also be competing over the next 3 months for the Highest Fundraiser award and supporters can assist them by donating online via the Stars web: https://stars.cancercouncil.com.au/event/stars-of-tamworth/home or attending their fundraising activities around town in the lead up to the big night.
Funds raised from the Stars of Tamworth event go to supporting Cancer Council and the local support services helping people in and around Tamworth affected by cancer.
These include the Cancer Council accommodation service -Inala House, assisting people needing help with accommodation while traveling to Tamworth for cancer treatments, our Transport to Treatment vehicles to help people with safe, reliable transport to access their treatment, our Home Help program assisting people with home maintenance while going through their cancer treatment, free counselling support services, pro-bono legal support, financial assistance programs, our cancer prevention programs and our cancer information and support groups.
Cancer Council NSW is the only cancer charity that works across every cancer.
“We are 94 per cent community funded and rely of the generosity and support from the community from local events like this,” said Sally-Anne Whitten.
The gala event will be held at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre Saturday 13th September.
This year’s event will boast live music, delicious meals, and an opportunity to experience the night as a secret agent VIP with special access and gold class extras to those limited pass holders.
