Heading back to the region for the first time in a long time is Melbourne’s very own Things of Stone and Wood.
Some readers might remember this 90’s band from back in the day. This time, they’re hitting up the Welder’s Dog in Armidale for a one night only, iconic 90s acoustic rock out.
“I’ve always loved playing there [the New England]. I remember when the band first started touring there and I think its such an incredible part of the world.” said Greg Arnold, Singer in Things of Stone and Wood.
“It’s a really beautiful place, so, we’re very excited to be coming back.”
The band will play two sets, bringing the original trio back to the New England.
“People can expect a really varied selection moving through from acoustic to a big rock out through to a bit of piano stuff.” said Arnold.
“We’re playing obviously lots of songs off the first two big albums, but in addition we have a lot of other material as well, and even a couple of newbies.”
The band formed thirty years ago as a couple of rag-tag folkies enjoying a beverage and singing along, now they’re back together and on the road.
Off the back of their top 10 single ‘Happy Birthday Helen’, the band achieved national success, international tours, a gold album ‘The Yearning’ and even a Late Show parody, kicking off a career that would place them as one of Australia’s most loved Folk-Rock bands.
Described as “Melbourne’s most inspired and inspiring acoustic band” (Michael Dwyer),their imaginative use of organic instruments set off an acoustic/folk movement that paved the way for the likes of John Butler, The Waifs and Angus & Julia Stone.
Their live show has always been full of energy and passion and whilst they’ve won many industry awards, including an ARIA and APRA Songwriter of the Year for Arnold, it’s on stage that they demonstrate why they are so loved.
“I’m hoping there’s a lot of people who haven’t seen us play for some time and we always love getting back in touch and performing for our audience, so come and a long for a good night.” said Arnold.
“For a few old blokes we still jump up and down a bit and it’s all fun.”
