Deepwater celebrates outstanding work of SES

This evening, May 21, the Deepwater SES is hosting Wear Orange Wednesday, a celebration of the incredible work of the local State Emergency Service volunteers.

The event, held at the Deepwater SES shed from 6pm, promises a family-friendly evening filled with gratitude, fun and community pride.

Chair of the Deepwater School of Arts Hall, Mary Hollingworth, says that the SES has deep roots in Deepwater, noting the group’s formation 45 years ago after a tragic incident sparked a wave of community action.

“The response this year has been fantastic,” Hollingworth said.

“We’ve had about 150 people come through the doors recently, and it’s clear the spirit of volunteering is alive and well in Deepwater.”

Attendees can enjoy a free BBQ, educational activities, insight into what a day of saving lives looks like and a presentation from the SES Unit Commander, Dawn Johnson. Special activity sheets will guide younger guests through disaster awareness exercises, making it both entertaining and informative for all ages.

Organisers are encouraging anyone interested in supporting the SES – especially those considering volunteering – to come along and connect.

“We would love more volunteers, we are a bit short at the moment, so anyone with a burning desire to support an important organisation and our small community is encouraged.”

The event will take place at 6pm at 25 Bourke St, Deepwater. For more information, visit the NSW SES Deepwater Unit Facebook page.
