Gunnedah locals are being encouraged to get involved in one of the town’s most celebrated traditions, with entries now open for the 2026 Gunnedah Show Representative Competition.
Run by the Gunnedah Show Society, the annual competition highlights community spirit and provides young people with a chance to build confidence, develop communication skills, and strengthen their connection to the local show.
Four categories are open this year: Junior Representative (5–9 years), Young Representative (10–14 years), Showgirl (15–17 years), and Young Woman (18–26 years).
Event organiser Mel Bartlett said the competition remains an important part of the Show’s legacy.
“This competition is a celebration of talent, community spirit, and the rich agricultural heritage of Gunnedah,” she said.
“We encourage individuals from all walks of life to join us in this exciting journey, where every participant is valued and celebrated.”
“Chennelle’s success shows that with determination and ability, a young person from Gunnedah can shine and go all the way to Sydney.”
Her comments follow the success of local entrant Chennelle Winsor, who was named Gunnedah Show Representative in 2024 before going on to win the Zone 4 finals and represent the region at the 2025 Sydney Royal Show.
Beyond the competition itself, participants gain valuable life experience, make lasting friendships, and become more involved in the community.
To launch this year’s program, entrants, sponsors, and supporters are invited to attend a competition soirée on Saturday, 11 April from 5pm at the Courthouse Hotel on Conadilly Street. Entry is $5, payable at the door, with RSVPs due by 4 April.
The evening offers a chance to meet organisers, learn more about the competition, and connect with others involved in the Show.
The 2026 Gunnedah Show will be held from 17 to 19 April at the Gunnedah Showgrounds.
