Back for another year, the New England Antique Machinery Club’s annual rally will take over the Armidale Showground on 15 and 16 November, showcasing vintage machinery, steam engines, heavy horses, and a variety of working displays.
Club Secretary Bronwyn Broom said the rally is a chance to celebrate agricultural history while offering something for the whole community.
“We would like to invite members of other clubs, collectors and the community to attend our annual rally,” Ms Broom said. “They are welcome to exhibit or just come along and enjoy what will be on show at the event.”
Engines, tractors, and vintage farm equipment will roar back to life across the showground.
“There will be working displays, with the Club’s thresher, baler and chaff cutter operating over the weekend,” Ms Broom said. “Steam engines will be fired up for the occasion, and there will also be a working sawmill.”
Visitors can also explore a dedicated compound where engines will be running, some driving equipment, alongside static exhibits. Demonstrations of corn shelling, grinding and chaff cutting using hand-operated machines will highlight the labour-intensive methods farmers once relied on.
The Armidale Heavy Horse Group will again feature as part of the program, offering spectators a rare opportunity to see draught horses at work.
“People will get to see how draught horses were used years ago to shear sheep, shell and grind corn,” Ms Broom said.
Along with machinery and horses, the weekend will include a tractor tour and a wide display of vintage vehicles.
“All vintage farm machinery, tractors, cars, trucks, bikes and household items will be welcome,” Ms Broom said.
The rally has become a favourite for exhibitors and enthusiasts alike, with a mix of demonstrations and displays ensuring there’s something to suit all interests.
The Armidale Showground in Dumaresq Street will open from 9am both days, running until 4pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.
Food and drinks will be available throughout the weekend, and camping is offered at the grounds by contacting the caretaker on 0400 639 630.
The rally will operate under NHMA guidelines, with registration and proof of public liability insurance required for all exhibitors. Entry forms can be submitted in advance or filled out upon arrival.
“It’s always a fantastic weekend for exhibitors, enthusiasts and families alike,” Ms Broom said.
