Glen Innes Severn Council has announced that works have commenced to fit out the front portion of the former Essential Energy building at 148 Church Street, Glen Innes, into a purpose-built CT scanning facility.
The new facility will provide state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging locally, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for essential medical scans and improving access to specialist healthcare in the region.
Earlier this year, Council supported the development by resolving to sell part of the former Essential Energy site to New England CT Pty Ltd, a locally owned family business dedicated to improving regional healthcare.
Drawing on their experience providing healthcare services in Glen Innes over the past eight years, Director of New England CT Pty Ltd, Simon Betts, identified the need for a local CT scanning service and is now delivering this vital facility for the community.
Mayor Margot Davis said the start of construction is an important milestone not only for healthcare but for the broader community and local economy.
“Access to quality healthcare is a priority for our residents,” Cr Davis said.
“By enabling the development of this CT scanning facility, Council is not only improving essential medical services close to home but also supporting local business and industry. This project demonstrates how we can creatively utilise an under-utilised asset in the heart of Glen Innes to deliver tangible benefits for the community and the wider region.”
“It’s a great example of Council playing an active role in fostering liveability, economic growth, and improved services for our people,” she said.
Council will continue to provide updates as the project progresses and encourages the community to support this new healthcare development.
