Family farms are at the heart of the thriving New England North West region, but how many of them have a plan in place when it is time for the land to change hands?

UNE Tamworth is proud to present a TamTalks event, with a special focus on farm succession, featuring two experts in this field who are local to the region.

Guests will hear from UNE academic Dr Lucie Newsome, who lectures in management and economics and has extensive experience in gender equality research and program development.

Dr Newsome is leading the first national survey of farm business succession to be undertaken in 20 years, with the aim of improving one of the most challenging aspects of agriculture. She said this month’s event is a chance for Tamworth region farming families to be better informed on succession planning and to understand its impacts for future generations.

“Just as successful succession means that families can continue farming the same land for generations, failed succession can damage relationships in ways that persist for generations. No one wants to live with that stress and sadness,” Dr Newsome said.

“This is a great opportunity to hear from a leading practitioner and researcher in the farm succession space, given both are located in the New England.”

Dr Newsome will be joined by experienced farm succession planner Isobel Knight, also from the Tamworth Region.

Isobel is a succession planning specialist and has been the owner and a director of Australia’s leading family farm succession planning business, Proagtive, for more than two decades.

Her presentation will highlight the importance of succession planning as part of good business management.

The Tamworth community is invited to attend this UNE TamTalk on Tuesday,
12 August at the UNE Tamworth Study Centre from 12pm–1pm. Light refreshments
will be provided to those who register via Eventbrite.
