Armidale’s Town Hall will come alive later this month as the New England Bach Festival introduces its new co-directors with a fundraising concert celebrating the music of JS Bach.

Sheila Guymer and Camilla Tafra, recently appointed to lead the festival into its 2027 season, will perform a program of cello and keyboard works by Bach and Vivaldi in an event designed to bring the local community together.

The concert, timed to coincide with Bach’s birthday, offers Armidale audiences a chance to experience live classical performance in an intimate setting while supporting what organisers describe as Australia’s only Bach festival.

Alongside works including Bach’s Cello Suite No. 4 and Partita No. 2, and a Vivaldi sonata for cello and harpsichord, the afternoon will also serve as a social gathering, with refreshments and an opportunity for locals to meet the festival’s new leadership.

Tafra said the event was about more than music.

“It’s a celebration of a new chapter for the New England Bach Festival,” she said.

“We are thrilled to share this incredible repertoire with our community in such a beautiful, local setting.”

Proceeds from the concert will go towards staging the 2027 festival, with organisers encouraging Armidale residents and supporters to book early.
