Walcha Coffee will host the official launch of Sea to See tday, Friday 19 December, a national e-bike journey led by Will Fenwicke to raise awareness and funds for Australians affected by Diabetic Retinopathy.

The launch brunch will run from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, bringing together local community members in support of a health issue that affects thousands nationwide.

Fenwicke, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, has developed Diabetic Retinopathy, a progressive eye condition that can lead to permanent vision loss. The disease has already cost him his driver’s licence, impacting his daily independence and career options. Now, with the support of a pedal-assist e-bike, he’s reclaiming that independence and transforming it into purpose.

On 28 December, Fenwicke will depart Byron Bay, NSW, riding west across the continent to Steep Point, WA. The ride — titled Sea to See — symbolises both the physical journey and the urgent need to protect vision for people living with diabetic eye disease.

“I know how hard this is — I’m living it,” Fenwicke said. “Treatments like laser therapy and eye injections can slow or stop vision loss, but they are expensive and ongoing. No one should have to weigh up the cost of preserving their sight.”

Funds raised through Sea to See will support:

  • Subsidised access to essential eye treatments such as laser therapy and injections
  • Early diagnosis initiatives to slow or prevent vision loss
  • Public awareness campaigns focused on diabetic eye health

Every kilometre ridden will represent an Australian in need of support to preserve their vision.

Walcha Coffee is supporting the launch event as part of its broader commitment to community wellbeing, resilience, and storytelling that resonates beyond the Northern Tablelands.

Members of the public are warmly invited to attend the brunch, meet Fenwicke, hear his story, and learn how they can support the cause.
