The dedication and commitment of 16 NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers from across the Liverpool Range District will be recognised this week at a special ceremony at the Fire Control Centre in Quirindi.

RFS Acting Assistant Commissioner Kam Baker AFSM was joined by several special guests for the presentation of 15 Long Service Medals and one National Emergency Medal.

“With length of service ranging from 10 to more than 60 years, many of these volunteers have dedicated a significant portion of their life to protecting others and deserve our gratitude,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Baker said.

“Heading the list of recipients is Hugh Ranclaud from the Currabubula Rural Fire Brigade, who will receive the Long Service medal for an impressive 67 years of service.

“Originally joining the RFS in 1958, Hugh has been a well-respected leader in many capacities, including Brigade Deputy and Senior Deputy Captain, Captain, and Brigade President.”

Assistant Commissioner Baker said many RFS members go above and beyond for their brigades and local community.

“Their professionalism does not go unnoticed, and while they don’t do the work for praise, their bravery and commitment should be acknowledged,” she said.

“I also acknowledge those who support volunteers in what they do – the family, friends, employers, and colleagues. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and protect property.”
