Port of Newcastle is encouraging charities and not-for-profits to think big and help bring their ideas to life by applying for a share of $100,000 in community grants.
CEO Craig Carmody said the 2025 Your Port, Our Community grants are now open and will fund projects and initiatives that align with the Port’s environmental and social values, strengthen relationships, and have a real and meaningful impact in their local community.
“From Newcastle to Narrabri and beyond, the Port’s catchment area is as diverse as the people who call it home. This is why we are again calling on charities and not-for-profits across Newcastle, the Hunter, and North-Western Regional NSW, who need a helping hand, to apply for a share of $100,000 in funding,” Mr Carmody said.
“There are so many inspiring organisations already making an impact within their communities. To be able to provide financial support so that they can continue their work, carry out crucial upgrades, or launch new programs and initiatives that have direct social or environmental benefits, is a legacy we are incredibly proud of.”
Funding will be available across three categories: Our People, Our Planet, and Our Partnerships.
2024 grant recipient, Splash of Colour Swimming, received funding to conduct a 12-week learn to swim program for people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Founder and Director Ennia Jones said support from Port of Newcastle has enabled them to have a positive impact on families who once felt excluded from aquatic spaces.
“Parents who once feared the water are now swimming confidently – and encouraging their children to take swimming lessons. As a result, they are creating a new legacy of safety and belonging,” Ms Jones said.
“Port of Newcastle’s grant has not only contributed to water safety education, but also strengthened community connections, breaking cycles of fear and replacing them with confidence, wellbeing, and opportunity that will benefit our region for generations to come.”
The 2025 grants are in addition to the $1 million Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund, which is administered by the NSW Government.
Applications for Port of Newcastle’s Your Port, Our Community grants will close at 5pm on Saturday, 18 October.
