Tamworth trainers had a day to remember at the Clubs NSW showcase race day on Friday, June 27, with local claiming 5 out of the 8 races on offer.
Cody Morgan got things underway in race 2,the Armidale Services/Narrabri RSL Country Boosted Showcase Maiden Plate (1000 metres), winning with Hellwithasmile, ridden by Aaron Bullock. The 3-year-old gelding jumped cleanly from the barriers where Bullock allowed the gelding to travel comfortably before peeling out on the home turn to the middle of the track where it quickly strode up to take the lead, holding off the fast finishing See You Thentrained by Rod Northam.
A quick turnaround for Morgan and Bullock, taking out Race 3, the Inverell RSM/Tamworth Services Club Showcase Maiden Handicap (1200 metres), with Occult, a new acquisition to the Morgan stable, transferred from the Godolphin yard in Sydney. The gelding trialed impressively on two occasions for Morgan before going to the line hard held to win by 1.68L at the $1.12 price.
Holly Williams made memories with her first winning double. The day was made extra special as it was Holly Williams Owners Day, with over 20 owners on course to cheer on their horses.
Staffa took out Race 5, the West Tamworth Leagues/Walgett RSL Showcase Benchmark 82 Handicap (1200 metres).
After missing the start at the mare’s two most recent starts, Staffa jumped away superbly to sit in a handy position before defying the big odds ($26) to win by over half a length ridden by apprentice William Stanley.
Race 7, the Glen Innes Services/South Tamworth Bowlo Showcase Class 3 Handicap (1400 metres), had the first four across the line trained by local Tamworth trainers. Sue Grills sent out To Be Frank, the $3.70 favorite ridden by apprentice Siena Grimma who sat midfield, then coming down the middle of the track to get over the top of Visualise trained by Jacob Perrett on the line, Tosinsky and Arrabbiata fighting out the minors.
Race 8, the Clubs NSW Country Boosted Showcase Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000 METRES), was won by Enterprise Legend trained by Holly Williams to cap off a spectacular day on course. The gelding who was first up from 13 weeks ridden by apprentice Siena Grimma, jumped from the widest barrier to take up the lead and the rest is history, the gelding kept going to score by 2L from So Country trained by Wayne Brown.
