The curtain is set to rise on a truly spectacular season of Mary Poppins as PLC transforms Armidale Town Hall for its 2025 musical production – complete with a bespoke catwalk stage that brings the magic right into the audience and an all female cast.
Featuring a vibrant cast of 70 students from Years 7 to 12, the production is an ambitious, joyous celebration of talent, teamwork, and theatrical excellence. With seven performances scheduled to start from Tuesday 17 June, and most shows all but sold out, community support has been nothing short of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Bringing this beloved Disney classic to life is a powerhouse creative team drawn from PLC Armidale’s own teaching staff. The production is directed and choreographed by Head of Creative and Performing Arts, Mrs Jo Wysel – a professional dancer, actor, and acclaimed drama educator with a deep passion for inspiring young performers.
Executive Producer and Head of Senior School Mrs Kate Clynch is overseeing the production, with musical direction by the College’s award-winning Director of Music, Mr Matthew Minter – an internationally recognised composer known for his dynamic and emotive work.
“This show is all heart,” said Mrs Wysel.
“From the moment Mary Poppins arrives, everything changes – not just for the Banks family, but for our cast and crew too. The stage becomes a playground for imagination, precision, and joy.”
“We wanted the audience to feel like part of that transformation – hence the specially designed stage that literally reaches out into the crowd.”
Audiences can expect an enchanting night out, with unforgettable musical numbers like A Spoonful of Sugar, Chim Chim Cher-ee, and Let’s Go Fly a Kite, along with dazzling costumes and high-energy dance numbers.
But you need to be quick to experience the magic and wonder of PLC Armidale’s Mary Poppins. Preview shows (Tuesday 17 & Wednesday 18 June) still have seats available, while limited tickets remain for Thursday and Friday performances. Wednesday and Saturday matinees along with closing night are already sold out.
