Community leaders, tourism professionals, and business stakeholders to shape the future of regional tourism and placemaking in the North West.

The New England North West (NENW) Regional Tourism and Placemaking Forum will launch in Narrabri this June, bringing together industry leaders, local stakeholders, and government representatives to discuss the future of tourism and community development in the North West region.

Hosted by Business NSW New England North West and Narrabri Shire Council, this half-day forum will focus on enhancing the vibrant communities of the North West – building authentic, future-focused destinations, and attracting both visitors and potential newcomers to the region.

Set for Thursday 12th June 2025 at The Exchange, Narrabri, the event will feature a keynote address from the NSW Government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, followed by spotlight presentations and a regional panel discussion. These discussions will focus on creating a resilient visitor economy that reflects the unique character of the North West.

“We’re thrilled to bring together the region’s change-makers at this forum to discuss the challenges and enormous opportunities in attracting visitors and growing the North West regional economy,” said Diane Gray, Business NSW New England North West Regional Director.

“This forum is about facilitating conversations not just around tourism, but the broader needs of our communities, from infrastructure to liveability and everything in between.”

Diane explains that by collaborating with local leaders and industry experts, the forum aims to identify solutions that will help shape a sustainable, vibrant future for the North West.

Speakers include:

• Gillian Goddard, Small Business Liaison Officer, Narrabri Shire Council

• Lucy White, General Manager, Destination Country & Outback NSW

• Nikki Robertson, Secretary, Kamilaroi Highway Group

• Kate McGrath, Employment Facilitator, Local Jobs Program

A regional panel discussion will explore key issues and opportunities, followed by a networking lunch.

This is a unique chance for tourism operators to connect and engage with decision[1]makers to help shape a more sustainable, thriving tourism industry in the North West.

“Narrabri Shire is a blessed part of Australia, with an array of natural wonders – not least our national parks, encompassing mountains, plains and forests,” Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens said.

“Geographically, we’re located at the crossroads of two major highways and serviced by NSW TrainLink, bringing people to our Shire from all compass points.”

“We’re seeing more and more people discover our Shire, highlighted by our strong and growing visitor economy, and local retailers and businesses embracing our unique tourism advantage.”

This event is the first in a series of regional forums, with a second event planned for the New England, to be held in Glen Innes later in the year.
