Telstra customers in Warialda may experience outages in the next couple of weeks, with Telstra upgrading its local base station to deliver faster and more reliable 4G and 5G services.
The upgrade will increase capacity at the site, improving download speeds, streaming quality and reducing congestion as data demand continues to grow.
Telstra Regional General Manager Mike Marom said the improvements are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity in regional areas.
“We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country,” he said.
“As data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion for customers.”
The works will also prepare the site for a future 5G upgrade.
Temporary disruptions to mobile services are expected while the upgrades are carried out, with outages scheduled between 9 April and 18 April, including periods of partial and intermittent service interruptions.
Mr Marom said Telstra would aim to minimise disruption during the works.
“While disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, we’ll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.”
Telstra customers will be notified ahead of the outages, with landline services, NBN internet and other providers not affected. Calls to Triple Zero will continue to connect via other available networks if needed.
Customers are encouraged to use Wi-Fi calling during outages, while businesses are advised to connect EFTPOS terminals to Wi-Fi or NBN to avoid transaction disruptions.
