A new media exhibition blending art, science and technology will open in Armidale this weekend, bringing internationally recognised works to the New England.
The New England Regional Art Museum will launch Experimenta Emergence on Saturday, featuring 13 artworks from leading Australian and international artists.
The exhibition is part of Experimenta’s ninth national tour of media arts and includes a mix of screen-based works, installations, robotics and interactive pieces designed to engage audiences in new ways.
NERAM Director Rachael Parsons said the exhibition offers a rare opportunity for the region.
“We’re delighted to welcome Experimenta back to NERAM,” Ms Parsons said.
“The exhibition is consistently engaging and thought-provoking, bringing ambitious and innovative new media artworks to our region that audiences rarely have the opportunity to experience.
“Experimenta Emergence invites us to reflect on the forces shaping our world—an especially timely proposition in the context of today’s challenges.”
The exhibition explores emerging social and environmental issues, encouraging audiences to consider alternative perspectives and future possibilities.
There are several events running as part of NERAM’s Experimenta Emergence opening weekend program. These include:
- A Curator’s Talk & Tour from 3pm-4.30pm on Saturday 28 March,
- A Haptic Vest Experience from 11am-12.30pm on Sunday 29 March, and
- A Virtual Reality Experience from 1pm-2.30pm on Sunday 29 March.
Ms Parsons said the program is designed to appeal to a wide audience.
“I strongly encourage audiences to come along and experience everything on offer across the opening weekend. It’s a unique opportunity to engage with art and technology while reflecting on some of the big issues we’re facing.”
All events as part of the Experimenta Emergence opening weekend program are
free, but bookings are essential. Visit www.neram.com.au to secure a spot.
