There are some lost pet stories that are not the same as the others.
A search is underway for Barney, a red kelpie dog who went missing after a fatal crash near Ashford earlier this year.
Barney has not been seen since 3 February 2026, when the car he was travelling in crashed on South Valley Road. His owner was killed in the accident, and Barney ran from the scene.
The very classic red kelpie is mostly brown with tan patches, and was wearing a red collar.
A $500 reward is being offered for information that helps locate him.

Those searching for Barney say their priority is simply knowing he is safe.
“Barney has been missing since his owner was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident,” Kim said.
“He just took off.”
“If you have seen Barney or have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact us.”
Kim said that if Barney has been taken in, they are understanding of the circumstances.
“If Barney has found himself a loving home after the accident, and he is happy, that is okay, he can stay with you.
“Just please let us know. We just want to know he is okay.”
Anyone who has seen Barney or has information about his whereabouts is urged to get in contact.
Kim can be reached on 0433 965 805, Dee on 0402 466 676, or via Millys Trap and Rescue on Facebook.
