24 year old dies after Moonbi crash last month

A 24 year old man has died six weeks after being involved in a two car crash at Moonbi.

About 3.10pm on Monday 9 February 2026, emergency services were called to the New England Highway, near Mount View Road, about 10km north of Moonbi, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and were told two vehicles, a Mitsubishi utility and a Mitsubishi SUV, had collided.

The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old woman, and a 13-year-old female passenger were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the utility, a 24-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Today (Wednesday 25 March 2026), police were informed the 24-year-old man died in hospital.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.

This was a different incident to the crash involving another Mitsubishi SUV and a livestock truck later in February which closed the New England Highway for several hours and also took a young man’s life.
