The Barraba Show is celebrating 115 years in 2026, a milestone for one of the region’s most beloved community events. Running from 6–8 March in the north-western town of Barraba, the weekend promises a mix of time-honoured traditions and exciting new attractions.
One standout of the updated schedule is the sports shear and wool handling competition, introduced in 2024. The Merino segment will take place on the show’s second day, Saturday, followed by Crossbreds on Sunday.
A motorbike barrel race, another recent addition, will again kick off Friday night before the junior rodeo.
Secretary for the Barraba Pastoral, Agricultural and Horticultural Association (PA&H), Carmen Bennett, said that both the barrel racing and the wool handling competitions have been huge successes since their introduction.

“Along with these, we have our historical events such as our three-day campdraft, beef section, and pavilion,” Bennett said.
“We are also looking forward to 10 trade stalls this year, the junior rodeo, and extreme broncs.”
The pavilion offers a large, vibrant space showcasing artwork, handicrafts, pottery, needlework, knitting, photography, and more. Visitors can also browse farm and garden produce, fresh-cut flowers, cakes, jams, and preserves.
“Overall, the locals really look forward to coming together and seeing everyone showcase their abilities and celebrating our community,” Bennett said.
First held in 1904, the Barraba Show has grown into an annual celebration of agricultural excellence and community spirit. Livestock exhibitions, competitions, and demonstrations remain central to the weekend, giving local farmers and producers the chance to display their prized animals and best practices.
Beyond agriculture, the event features a fat lamb competition, a pet show, and dog trials, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
No Barraba Show would be complete without its equestrian showcase. The arena, set against a stunning backdrop of mountains and open plains, hosts action across multiple disciplines.
President of the Barraba PA&H Association, David Penna, said organisers are determined to make this year’s show even bigger and better.
“A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into preparing the Barraba Show, and we warmly encourage our community to come along, participate, and celebrate everything that makes our region unique,” Penna said.
