The Armidale branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) will mark its 100th anniversary with a free community celebration on Saturday, 21 February 2026, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, at the historic Saumarez Homestead.

The family-friendly event is open to all and will celebrate the CWA’s legacy of service, friendship, and support for the Armidale community over the past century.

“For 100 years, CWA Armidale has brought people together through friendship, learning, and service. This day is about honouring that history and inviting the community to celebrate with us,” said a spokesperson for CWA Armidale.

Guests will be welcomed with a free scone and cuppa, provided by the CWA. Food stalls, coffee, and cold drinks will also be available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the homestead’s scenic grounds.

A full program of free entertainment will run throughout the day, featuring local bands and choirs, a bush poet, and short performances by a local drama group, reflecting the region’s vibrant cultural and rural traditions.

Children can enjoy free face painting, while artists of all ages are invited to bring their own materials to sketch, draw or paint the picturesque surroundings.

The event will also include a variety of demonstrations and historical displays, including:

  • Wood carving
  • Spinning and weaving
  • Lacemaking and embroidery
  • Historical fashion and sewing machines
  • Antique vehicles and farming machinery
  • A timeline of CWA Armidale’s 100-year history
  • Local historical displays with historians in attendance

Local community groups will also be involved, offering information on volunteering and community engagement in the region.

Guided tours of Saumarez Homestead will be available on the day for $10, offering insight into one of New England’s most significant heritage properties.

Established in 1926, CWA Armidale continues to support women, families, and the broader community through advocacy, education, and connection.
