A child has died after being struck by a train at Baan Baa.
About 7.50pm today (Friday 7 November 2025), emergency services were called to Baranbah Street, Baan Baa, following reports a child has been hit by a freight train.
The child – a 1-year-old girl – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to hospital, where she died.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were told the child was walking along the road before being clipped by the train.
A crime scene has been established, and investigations have commenced into the circumstances of the crash.
The train driver – a 22-year-old man – was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
In other police news, a man has been charged after a firearm and rounds of ammunition were allegedly found by police following a vehicle search in Manilla.
About 6.20pm yesterday (Friday 7 November 2025), officers attached to Oxley Police District located a vehicle parked on Kanangra Street, Manilla and spoke to the driver.
Checks were conducted and a subsequent vehicle search was carried out with police allegedly locating and seizing a shortened rifle, amounts of ammunition, methylamphetamine and goods believed to be stolen.
The driver – a 20-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with:
– Shorten firearm (not pistol) unless authorised by permit
– Possess prohibited drug
– Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle)
– Possess loaded firearm public place
– Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
– Possess unregistered unauthorised prohibited firearm in public place
– Two count of possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 8 November 2025).
