Time is running out to be part of next week’s All-Inclusive Dance Party in Tamworth, with RSVPs now extended until tomorrow, Wednesday 13 August.
The free event, hosted by the Tamworth Network Group, will be held on Friday 22 August from 6pm to 9pm at The Chapel, 30 Anne Street, Tamworth. The event is free, but you must RSVP before the event to take part.
Organisers say the dance is an opportunity for people with and without disabilities to come together in a relaxed, non-formal setting to simply have fun. The alcohol free party will feature music, pizza and drinks, and entertainment suitable for all ages. The organisers encourage guests to “dress to impress” or come in fancy dress.
“Our event is accessible and we encourage all people with disability, their families and carers to come along and join the fun,” Ms Wilson said.
The Tamworth Network Group was established by Enlarge Living following the disbanding of the SCAN group, which had previously operated for many years in Tamworth. Its aim is to provide networking opportunities for service providers supporting vulnerable people, encouraging collaboration, breaking down silos and working together for better outcomes.
Margaret Wilson from the Tamworth Network Group said inclusion was central to the event’s purpose.
“It is important we work to ensure everyday inclusion for the 4.3 million Australians living with disability,” she said.
“Together we can start a conversation about the issues experienced by people with disability to help to make our community more inclusive,” Ms Wilson said.
The event has been made possible through the support and donations of local businesses, services and organisations, including Rotary Sunrise, Domino’s, Fiona’s Mini Buses, Sunnyfield, Brighter Access, Shay Brennan Construction, The Chapel Tamworth, Tamworth Regional Council Annual Donations Program, Photobooth Co and SORA.
Organisers are calling on the community to help spread the word as people with disabilities are often isolated and may not know about the event.
“Inclusion is important because it creates a sense of belonging, acceptance, and growth for everyone,” Ms Wilson said.
