New community nights to spark connection in Walcha

A new series of community nights at the Commercial Hotel is set to give Walcha residents more opportunities to connect, share ideas, and celebrate their passions.

Launching this month, the initiative introduces three themed monthly events designed to appeal to locals from all walks of life — from tech enthusiasts and home brewers to long-time residents and newcomers simply wanting to meet their neighbours.

Held on Tuesday evenings in the historic surrounds of the Commercial Hotel, each event is free and open to everyone.

“We’re all about creating welcoming, down-to-earth spaces where people can connect,” said Kristian Schmidt, owner of the Commercial Hotel.

“These nights are for the thinkers, the makers, and the neighbours – anyone who wants to meet like-minded locals and feel part of something bigger.”

First on the calendar is the New England Tech Entrepreneur Night, held on the first Tuesday of every month from 6pm. The event offers a relaxed gathering for local tech professionals, creatives, and start-ups to network, exchange ideas and foster the region’s growing entrepreneurial spirit.

For those whose interests lean towards brewing and distilling, the second Tuesday of each month will feature Home Brewers & Distillers Night. The event invites local brewers, distillers and enthusiasts to share stories, swap techniques and connect over a shared appreciation for handcrafted beverages.

The third Tuesday of each month will be reserved for Walcha NSW Neighbours Night — a casual evening focused on building community. Whether you’re new to the area or a long-time resident, the event offers a chance to catch up, forge new friendships and support the strong community spirit that defines Walcha.

“We’re hoping to see a mix of locals who are curious, creative, and community-minded, whether you’re into tech, home brewing, or just keen to meet your neighbours,” Schmidt said.

“These nights are perfect for small business owners, start-ups, and anyone wanting to connect with like-minded people in Walcha.”
