Tamworth singer-songwriter Owen Smith is set to deliver a good dose of Aussie humour with his brand new single Upper Class Bogan, out Thursday, July 11 — and he’ll be celebrating with a live launch as part of Hats Off To Country on Friday, July 12 in Tamworth.
Co-written with Golden Guitar winner Matt Scullion during the 2024 CMAA Academy of Country Music, Upper Class Bogan is a tongue-in-cheek country tune poking fun at those living the high life with a heavy dose of bogan pride. Matt also features on the track — and in the upcoming music video, which was filmed right here in Tamworth.
The single has already been turning heads since its first live performance at Academy, where Owen had Academy Director Lyn Bowtell laughing in her seat and a stage full of students rocking Hawaiian shirts.
The track was recorded across multiple locations and features a stellar lineup including Dobe Newton (spoons), Simon Johnson (bass/production), Brad Bergen (guitar/drums) and Gabi Louise (fiddle), with Owen recording his vocals in Tamworth.
The official video — shot entirely in Tamworth with a cast of Owen’s mates embracing their inner bogans — will follow in the coming weeks.
Owen’s launch performance during Hats Off is a great chance to catch this rising local artist in action — and Upper Class Bogan is one to watch.
