Round 4 wrapped up for New England Rugby Union (NERU) this weekend, with plenty of football on display.
In first grade, Walcha Rams defeated St Alberts College with a convincing 34 to 7 win. The game saw Richard Hunt, Hamish Heeney, Mosese Tuvou, E. Pitt, Cole Tweedy get over the line, while Albies own Jamie Cameron saw to their only try of the day.
In the other first grade matchup, the Armidale Blues held out the Tamworth Magpies for a 33 to 24 score line.
Blues Michael Paul went in first for the home side, while Vice Captain Jayden Smith pulled a double, followed by Clancy McDermott and Ratu Sailosi Nawerecaqa.
Magggie’s own Blake Clout also managed a double, with Will Burke also finding the try line, but not enough for the win.
Robb College and the Barbarians had the bye.
Menawhile, the women’s landed big wins over the weekend.
The Tamworth Magpies defeated the Armidale Blues 61 to 7, while the Glen Innes Elkettes kept the Barbets scoreless, 55-0.
Football continues this weekend
Meanwhile, we are only three sleeps away from this weekend’s NSW Country Championships games, kicking off in Tamworth’s Scully Park.
Our New England Women’s side will meet the Mid North Coast on Friday, May 16, at 3pm at Pirates Rugby Club.
At 4:40pm on Friday, the New England Men’s will kick off against the Mid North Coast Open Men’s.
