The Big Chill is back and turning up the volume for its fifth and most epic year yet, according to organisers.
Get ready for a full-throttle weekend of live music, fire pits, frosty dips and legendary vibes as Big Chill Festival transforms Armidale’s local Showground into the coolest cultural hotspot this weekend, May 16 to 18.
Whether you’re chasing main-stage magic, craft beer under the stars, or family-friendly fun with serious heart, this year’s lineup and experiences are set to make the Big Chill an event that can’t be missed.
From a pumping free launch party on Friday 16 May to a jam-packed festival day on Saturday 17 May, followed by the legendary Chilly Dip at Dumaresq Dam on Sunday, this weekend is shaping up to be an unforgettable one in the Armidale Region.
There’ll be no need to check the forecast as this party is going ahead rain, hail or shine. A massive big top tent will rise once again at the festival grounds, delivering an all-weather experience that ensures the music never stops, the crowd stays dry, and the vibes stay high. The iconic tent will house the main stage and central gathering area, offering shelter, warmth, and the perfect space to dance the weekend away.
Armidale Regional Council Mayor Sam Coupland says the Big Chill Festival is more than just a music event, it’s a celebration of everything that makes Armidale unique.
“It brings our community together, showcases our region’s incredible talent and produce, and invites visitors from near and far to experience the best of New England hospitality. We’re proud to see Armidale thriving as a destination for major events, and the Big Chill is a shining example of our region’s vibrancy and growth.”
“Events like the Big Chill are key to Armidale’s ongoing growth transformation and we’ve worked hard to make this region a place people want to visit, live, and invest in. Festivals like this are vital in putting us on the map and driving local jobs and growth,” said Mayor Coupland.
This year’s festival kicks off with a free launch party on Friday evening at the Showground from 4pm to 8pm. This is one awesome appetiser to the main event with Marvell, Sam Buckley Band and Goldheist taking centre stage whilst festival-goers indulge in local food and brews.
The main event will take place on Saturday offering a diverse line up of local and national acts, including Peking Duk, San Cisco, Vera Blue, Jebediah, Ruby Fields, and more. The Live & Local Stage guarantees great tunes and good vibes with the likes of The Cham Cham, Something About Midnight, Blakk Dynasty and Jessie May.
Beyond the beats you’ll find food trucks, fire pits, brewers from near and far and the inaugural chilli eating contest. But bring the crew (and the kids!) because the Little Chillers Zone is packed with fun for the mini-moshers, including face painting, circus workshops, giant games, and a kids’ stage to keep the whole family smiling.
BBQ Alley is a sizzling hotspot for all barbecue lovers. Running from 11am, festival-goers can indulge in mouthwatering live cooking demonstrations featuring lamb breakdowns, pork ribs, steak, and chicken wings, alongside taste tests that showcase the best of BBQ mastery. The highlight is the thrilling BBQ @ The Big Chill Competition, where pitmasters battle it out for top honours. Whether you’re a seasoned BBQ fan or just hungry for great food, BBQ Alley promises smoky flavours, expert tips, and a feast for the senses in a vibrant festival atmosphere.
