SUMMARY:High Country Theatre's performance of "Lonely Love"
DESCRIPTION:Lonely Love \nAre you fascinated by the way power operates in our society? Do you look at the Capitol riots and wonder HOW one person’s truth can so strongly influence the behaviour of others to the point where some were willing to kill? I have used the theatre of the absurd genre to present a story based on the lives of two families; to create a world that explains WHY one person might want to believe something and why others around her might want to believe her truth\, no matter how absurd that truth might be. Is my truth reality? Is your truth reality? \nSexual abuse is discussed so please be aware if this might be a trigger for you. \nAuthor: Margaret Sims \nDirector: Penny Dalgleish \nProducer: Gordon Cope

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the New England Regional Art Museum for the opening night of two new exhibitions! This opening will also launch our annual Winter Blooming Festival\, so it’ll be a night of excitement and celebration! \nABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS\nBoundaries: Transcended\nBoundaries: Transcended celebrates the work of hundreds of people who came together to build tiny ceramic homes celebrating the resettlement of refugees in the Hunter Valley. Now presented at NERAM\, these small-scale structures speak to broader regional conversations about place\, identity\, and what it means to build a home in a new environment. \nPeople built traditional huts from Ghana\, apartments from India\, and humpies from Australia – to name just a few. Others built tents or caravans\, reminding us that all kinds of structures can be a home. Some people build future focused buildings – the architecturally designed home they hoped for when they finished their degree or Australia’s Parliament House – representing the final step on their migration journey: citizenship. For others\, home was not necessarily a house. Temples from Cambodia\, Japan\, and India sit alongside mosques from Mecca and churches from Vietnam. \nRoad Trip: A Residency\nSide Gallery Road Trip brings together a group of artists invited by Side Gallery to immerse themselves in Armidale over an intensive weekend encounter. Designed as both a creative experiment and a site-responsive experience\, the project asked what happens when artists step outside their familiar routines and studio environments to engage with a new place. \nDuring their time in Armidale\, the artists explored the town and its surrounds\, connecting with its landscapes\, rhythms and communities. They toured the New England Regional Art Museum with Director Rachael Parsons\, gaining insight into the region’s cultural context through both gallery and collection encounters. Conversations with local artists from Armidale and Walcha further grounded their experience in the lived realities of regional practice. The resulting works capture a range of personal and material responses to place\, shaped by exchange and the distinctive character of the New England landscape. \nEVENT INFORMATION\nDate: Friday 21st August\nTime: 6pm – 8pm\nLocation: New England Regional Art Museum\nCost: FREE

SUMMARY:International Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 12 August 10.0Oam – Mistura (Drama – 1 hr 37 min – Spanish) A prejudiced Franco-Peruvian woman opens a restaurant after her husband leaves her for another woman. Through it\, she falls in love with the gastronomic and cultural diversity of Peru during the prosperous but troubled Lima of 1965. 7.10pm – Berlin Hero (Comedy – 1 hr 54 min) All his life\, Michael Hartung\, owner of a hopelessly debt-ridden video store\, has bet on the wrong horse. When an ambitious journalist confronts him with the results of his research\, everything changes for the charmingly melancholy Micha. Many years ago\, as an employee of the Reichsbahn\, he is said to have organized the largest mass escape in the GDR. Stasi files prove the case. He was apparently even imprisoned and then deported to an open-cast lignite mine. Seduced by a lavish salary\, Micha confirms the story\, although only fragments of it are true.

SUMMARY:International Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, 11 August 10.00am – Re-creation (Drama – 1 hr 29 min – Ireland) In a fictitious trial\, 12 members of a jury must decide whether journalist Ian Bailey is guilty of the 1996 murder of French filmmaker Sophie Toscan Du Plantier. She’s been married for over 20 years and has two\, teenage children. So far\, nothing remarkable. But on a business trip to Rome something happens that turns her life upside down. She meets Alex\, a scriptwriter who’s spending a few days in the Italian city. The instant attraction she feels for him\, the butterflies in her tummy\, the seductive hint of possibility… After all this time\, she remembers what it feels like to fall in love and it shifts something inside of her. It reignites a fire that had long been extinguished. 6.30pm – Colours of Time (Comedy – 2 hr 4 min) Directed by Cedric Klapisch\, this sweeping French drama brings together family mystery\, historical texture and artistic curiosity in a story that moves between contemporary Normandy and the final years of the 19th century. When four estranged cousins inherit a long-abandoned house\, their investigation into its past gradually reveals the life of a young ancestor and opens a wider reflection on memory\, kinship and the way personal histories continue to shape the present. What gives the film its distinctive appeal is the way it combines intimate emotion with a broader cultural backdrop. By linking the story to the emergence of photography and the Impressionist moment in Paris\, it creates a visually rich setting that feels both historically detailed and emotionally immediate. Klapisch’s humanistic style helps the material remain warm and accessible\, while the ensemble cast\, including Suzanne Lindon\, Abraham Wapler\, Vincent Macaigne\, Julia Piaton\, Paul Kircher and Cecile de France\, adds depth and strong cross-generational appeal. Presented Out of Competition at Cannes in 2025\, it arrives with clear prestige and strong appeal for patrons interested in French cinema\, family storytelling and elegant period-inflected drama.

SUMMARY:International Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 8 August 10.00am – Berlin Hero (Comedy – 1 hr 54 min) All his life\, Michael Hartung\, owner of a hopelessly debt-ridden video store\, has bet on the wrong horse. 4.15pm – Case 137 (Crime – 1 hr 56 min) Stéphanie (Léa Drucker)\, an investigator at the French National Police General Inspectorate (IGPN)\, is assigned Case 137\, involving Guillaume Girard (Côme Péronnet)\, a young man left in a critical condition after being struck by a rubber bullet during a tense demonstration in Paris. At first\, nothing points to clear police misconduct — until Stéphanie discovers that the victim is from her own hometown\, Saint-Dizier\, turning the case into something far more personal. SUMMARY:Opera Australia: "Don Giovanni"
DESCRIPTION:NECOM is proud to present Opera Australia’s newest touring production of Don Giovanni for a once-only performance. It is the last day of Don Giovanni’s life\, but he doesn’t know that.  For opera’s own Casanova\, it’s just another day of pleasure seeking.  Seducing a bride on her wedding day. Breaking into a woman’s bedroom in the dead of night. Killing her furious father. Even before the curtain rises\, Mozart reveals Don Giovanni’s fate.  An earth-shattering chord from the orchestra signals the gates of hell clanging open. The scoundrel’s debauched days are at an end. ***Please note: Don Giovanni will be performed in Italian*** Patron Advice: Suitable for 16+ years; strong/coarse language; mature/adult themes; sexual references
